I think the main reason to change the liner

was that the flux-cored wire liner was larger, so a smaller diameter liner had to be installed since the shielding gas actually travels around the liner to get to the head.

Lowe's used to have the lower end Lincoln's for around $300, and the mig conversion kit was another ~$100, plus if you didn't already have a bottle and gas, that was extra too.

I only ran a few feet of that flux-cored wire crap, and changed over to mig wire and gas ASAP.
