Hi John, for stock spec's I wouldn't add any shims to my stronger than stock retard side spring. When you increase your boost you should add shims as necessary, I include 3 different thicknesses which can be used in any combination. You do however have to dismantle the unit to add or change shims but it's not all that difficult with my instructions. It's common to think of the factory unit or our A.I.D. as linear like the BTM but even though the spring (any spring) is in fact linear what makes these devices non-linear is the way the advance / retard actuator arm is attached to the distributor. I take full advantage of this situation and create the curve I'm looking for with spring tension and the overall retard limit which in my opinion makes the onset (as MSD calls it) just right. We only took over the SPG9 web site (someone else bought the G-9 site) which to start with will only be used for product info and installation instructions, product availability and of course how to contact us. We'll take orders either by email or phone for now, I answer my cell number day or night so while being between CA and NY won't make any difference as far as contacting us. We hope to be all setup in the NY Finger Lakes by July at the latest but for now we can take care of several smaller items like the A.I.D. Take care, Dave
