if you advanced the timing & as a direct result your boost droped off you retard the timing till the boost comes up & is stable that is the best timing for your setup
Ive seen people use MBCs & up boost because it was unstable with the APC resulting in engine dammage
some degree of knock sensativity is good & can be used to tell where things need to be set
stock (tweaked APCs) are a it too sensative for knock & that should be adjusted up a bit in the APC this will help stabilize boost a bit
