Give a call to Swedish Auto in Austin, TX (512) 836-0022 and ask for Camron or Andre, Camron is the resident Mech. engineer, and Andre is a 30 year Saab Master Mech. and was talking to me about doing this same thing for the later 8v's block is made of high-nickle content and crank and rods are more robust than the 16v's (if that is even posible). yes there are some mods that will have to be addressed as far as drilling and tapping mounting some of the parts for the 16v head but he made it sound very do-able and highly recommended for building up a high-horsepower engine if this is what you're after?
I hope this helps.
