I just under took this task on my 91 9000T summer of 2005. I bored the engine .040 using factory pistons and rings. Good for 400hp. I lightened the crankshaft, lightened the flywheel, Lesco set-up the Sach sport clutch for me, balance shafts were eliminated, and the lower assembly was blueprinted and balanced. Top end included performance valve job with SD valve springs and sport cams.
If I had it to do all over again I would purchase a core 94 and later engine trans ECU T-5 set-up. I now have swapped to a T4/T3 with T04e 50 wheels and .48 AR. Trying to tune this set-up with LH system is challenging. If you keep a mild T25 turbo with T3 60 wheel you will be OK.
The larger turbo makes this car a animal when if makes the full 20psi.
The problem is getting the car tuned to make consistant power. One day it boost to 12psi the next 20-21. When it makes a solid 20psi to 6000rpm 3rd gear will spin the tires.
Good luck, performance is addicting. Remember the trannies are fragile. I broke the spider gears on my 1st tranny within 700miles with the new engine.
Walter Wong and his crew were a HUGE help in making this project come together. With the motor rebuild a auto to 5spd conversion was also done.
