Autocrossing is a ton of fun if it's a well run event. The DC club ran an autocross for a few years, and by the time we did our last one, we had it pretty well figured out. You should be able to compete with theed Evos and STis with a modified Saab, IMHO, if you have the handling hooked up. NGs have a high center of gravity, so with some lowering springs, tighter shocks, VRK, sway bars, urethane bushings, kicka$$ brakes, and some slicks, you should be able to hang.
The hardest part about drag racing is getting FWD to hook up properly. I use a dual stage manual boost controller, which gives me 12 PSI at the launch and kicks over to 22 psi in open mode. I tried using it in autocross, and ended up putting it in open mode but with a lower peak, I think 15 or 16 psi last time I raced.
Glad to hear folks are welcoming with your ride. That can go both ways, but for the most part, the true racers aren't snobby about the rides.
Enjoy the new toys!
