I hear you there, you can tell a lot from the sound and the feel of the car and when you are on a dyno, the feel is out the window... I tell you, I did not have much trouble watching my tach when I raced because I was really trying to dial it in for best et by what shift-points were best and I tried them all and did go through the traps in third gear at my 7k redline, just like you and was about 110mph. Next time I short shifted from third to fourth at 5700rpm and lowered my et and gained some mph at went through in 4th gear at 112.27mph. It gave me just enough time to shift and get the turbo spooled and powered through the gate.
It was tuff to remember to watch my other gages, like a/f or anything else, but tach and mph were in my tunnel vision...
