I meant to say portion (not porting), "When mine are completed the reduced 'portion' looks the same on the bottom as it came from ARP on the top!" If you look at the top the smaller mid portion is machined all the way to the fine threads with a nice radius so I machine the bottom the same way so the stud will thread in all the way to the bottom rather than stop on the tapered shoulder ARP leaves just above the coarse threads. Another reason I do this is because that tapered shoulder crimps the top block thread making the studs difficult to remove as you found yours to be. I'm not sure just why ARP does this, even one of their people that's been there from day one agrees with me that it's not right! When I use to machine a much larger external hex they would of course come out without stripping the new hex. The other way to remove problem ones is to use a rocker arm stud poly lock like tool that I make out of hex stock. In other words I use a set screw to lock against the top of the ARP head stud to unscrew stubborn ones. If time permits you could send me your studs to modify? Take care, Dave
