Plastic does not do well in the baking process. Plus the eletrostaics you apply powder with dosen't work well with the plastic. It's to hard to ground. Also not all powders bake at the same temps. Think of it like cooking. Some things take a higher temp but not as long where others take lower temps but bake longer. Also with powder coating rims the trouble you run into in the mass of the wheel. With such a large mass. it will take twice as long to cook or cure. The cooled rim will suck the heat right out of the oven. What I did with mine (It's a Gloss black over a gloss black metallic) I pre heated the wheel to 450. I then pulled the rims out coated it and rest the temp on the oven to 400 and baked for 20 mins. The mass of the rim with cool while it's out of the oven. The trick I found was to "over" heat it. While I was setting up and shooting the rim it cooled. My goal was to get it back into the oven by the time the rim cooled to 400. THE ONLY PROBELM with this is if you make a mistake, you can't blow it back off as if it was still dry. (BYTHEWAY this process is also call hot coating) You can see my rims on my gallery. They are just the normal SPG rims. I also powder coated some thing under the eng bay. It's what I do on the side!!!
