everything depends...
I know a guy that had one of the rubber gromets on the intake plenum, the ones that secure the large vacuum line closest to the alternator on a c900, fall in and he didn't realize it. In fact it may have been there from the previous owner as he didn't replace that part.
It got stuck under the intake valve and held it open, causing piston-valve contact and the ring let go and... basically it wasn't pretty.
But a very small piece of plastic should pass...
