Under hood temp is nearly irrelevant to the engine. Coolant temp is no problem either. The problem is high charge temp and the resulting power loss from density changes and the tendency for knock. This is what you feel.
There are a couple main ways to remedy it. Higher octane fuel is more resistant to knock, that is harder to burn so it for sure ignites when it is wanted not before. As the heat goes up you need more octane. where 91 might Second option is to make sure the air that is compressed is as close to ambient. This can be done with a more efficient intercooler. Intercooler is one of those free no compromise parts. There is no downside, other than cost of course. Along the same idea of the intercooler is more parts to allow the car to make the same power easier. Simplest here is a larger less restrictive downpipe and catalyst. This increases the pressure differential across the turbine. :) Or I usually choose the last one since it is the coolest, switch to 105 octane E85. Whit that much antiknock intake temp is much less of a problem. Conversion to flex fuel can be done with just ECU software calibration change.
On my -04 9-3 Aero it is just converted to e85, for the -04 9-5 aero it is stg1 flex fuel. can use either or a blend. On my Viggen making 500hp it takes a little of everything here including other parts. Hope that helps.
