Where are you predicting the rubbing? The lower the offset, the further IN towards the car the wheel will be. The standard wheel for the car is 6.5" with an offset of 27. Going to 7.5" immediately puts in the inside rim 13mm closer, and making the offset 40mm puts in another 13mm. The wheel with the 18mm offset is going to put the inside rim pretty close to stock position, but the outside is going to stick out quite a bit. In my opinion, none of those offsets is really great. He could go with the 40mm offset and 13-15mm spacers, but then that adds $400-600 to the total cost.
