So my brother drove my modded '85 900T to the Chicago area and is trading cars with me for the '93 9k Aero, so I am keeping the '85.

It is currently very loud, with headers, TD-04 15G, 3" downpipe and full exhaust, terminating in a side exit.

It has a single Heddman louvred-core glass-pack muffler with a 22" case.

The loud exhaust was fine at home in California, but Illinois has very strict legislation on vehicle exhaust noise which does not require a metered sound test to write a ticket, only officer discretion, and giving citizens citations seems like it's the major revenue generator for the Chicago area. See http://www.nonoise.org/lawlib/states/illinois/H902.htm, section 902.120.

Does anyone have PERSONAL experience with round cased Magnaflow mufflers (NOT resonator)? I do not have space for an additional resonator, and do not have a cat installed. I have to have centered inlet/outlet. I am considering either the 6" diameter 18" case round muffler, or the 6" diameter 30" case round muffler. IL vehicle code states that anything louder than originilly fitted muffler is too loud and can be cited.

The 5" diameter muffler would fit a little better, but is only available in a 14" long case in 3" in/out, and I don't think it will be enough sound deadening, and I don't have the money or time to do this twice.

My question is: Does anyone know if the 6" dia 18" long core will be quiet enough?

Best,
Drew
