I started building the 8v base car for 2 reasons, I got the car for 200 bucks, and was advised to stay away from a turbo car if I wanted to go SCCA racing. So I chose the base 8v car as the platform. Something about the 900 turbo not being competetive in the classes that I would be put in. Racing against cars I cant beat would just frustrate me. So I was steered in the non turbo direction. Besides, racing a slower car would make me focus on getting the most out of the handling of the car, and less on the power, in turn making me a better driver. I autox the car. Run open track days. and would like to do a hill climb or 2. I have even run it on the drag strip. (1/8 mile, 11.1 at 61 mph). The car has kind of evolved into more of a street machine than a spec racer. I have an 85 16v turbo project, and a 16v turbo 71 99 project for when I want to play with boost. Just thought it would be fun to do an 8v base car.
