I've got a 10" Spal fan on my intercooler that is like 1200 CFM. It was kind of expensive though. Generally you can get a good 9" fan in the 800cfm range for under $30.
I wired mine to a switch on the dash. I usually run it all the time. I just wanted the ability to shut it off if I have the car parked, engine off and listening to the radio (at the local drive-in for instance). A fan running under that circumstance would kill the battery in no time. You could always use a under-hood connection and just unplug it if you don't want to wire a switch.
I've got my water/meth system about half installed on my car (hopefully finished next weekend). I got a used-but-uninstalled Snow Performance stage II unit for around $200 on evilbay.
