I've done an exhaustive amount of research both on TSN and elsewhere on engine longevity and problems 9-5 Aero owners face. It seeems like alot of 9-5 Aeros blow up engines and from what I've read it's due to any number of things, but mostly poor oil pressure due to pump/housing slowly failing. And probably sludge building up due to that issue? Some say it's due to poor readings, under spirited driving, from the MAF sensor, however, that part of the issue seems to be a symptom of poor oil pressure making car not running properly consequently affecting MAF readings... So which is it or is it both??? I'd like to upgrade my 2001 9-5 Aero 5 speed stick-shift (with 105,000 miles) to a stage three maptun or nordic tuner package but am very concerned that the engine won't bare it, and even without the tuning packages, I'm still concerned leaving my car bone stock. I get the impression that the 9-5 Aero engine is a time bomb and owners get little to no warning before eniges fail due to poor oil pressure and or incorrect MAF readings. What are peoples thoughts? is this correct info? How do I prevent this engine from blowing up? My classic 900 turbo convertible Never has engine issues... I've heard that the similar engines in the older 9000 Aeros don't have the issues the 9-5 engines do. Why did they change the engines at all? Seems they should have just transplanted the old 9000 Aero engines in the 9-5's. Thoughts? I'm getting afraid to drive my car in a spirited manner, and mostly just drive it like a grandma on a Sunday. That is NOT why I bought this car. Can we fix the issues before blowing the engine, make it stronger, or prevent components from failing and then blowing up the engine. I'm losing faith in Saabs due to this, it's rediculous. Please comment/suggest/enlighten me. I've checked for sludge by dropping pan and taking off the cam cover, no sludge. Mechanic says the 5 speed stick shift models usually don't have sludge, is this basically true? Sorry for the long post but can we all get to the heart of the issue and take steps to fix BEFORE engine blows up? It's frustrating not having faith in your car, makes me want to sell it, but I love it! What to do?
