I don't think you're asking the question correctly... How much do you want to spend? The stock transmission, even the later years from 1989 onwards that had the larger pinion bearings will break under heavy torque made at lower rpm's. To solve this, I went to a newly rebuilt transmission with shotpeened and cryogenically treated gears from a company that specializes in just this thing. I told them what HP and Torque figures I was intending and they sold me a transmission that has reliably put up with the numbers. I dyno'd on dynojet and got 240HP and 290 Torque at the wheels. The stock transmission would never handle this daily, I broke the stock transmission easily. I really use all that power in my driving. Call Scanwest Autosport in Seattle Washington about what performance levels they offer and costs. There is no sense modifying your engine, adding other go-fast parts and possibly adding a larger turbo if you're gonna break the transmission. Fix the weakest link first.
