The difference between the European drivers and Ameereekan drivers when driving Saabs was that the Europeans shifted at max torque as low an RPM as plotted for shift points. The Ameereekans would rev the bitch as high as possible and look "manly" in the process. Now, the difference in ending "speed" wasn't appreciable between the two different styles of driving, but over time, ie: a long distance type race WAS appreciable. The more "gentle" and pointed towards technical driving could yield a "finish" instead of a DNF.
But, then again, I love to firewall the bitch and make it suffer. In a straight line with no other objectives, use ryan's approach....or mine....one in the same.
