Interesting My press 'tests' showed opposite. Why would I put it out there if it wasn't accurate? I have neither intent nor need to impress Saab devotees of any description :-) Not even a 'business' interest.
This piston nonsense was initially related to me by my 35 yr race engine builder. In my test, forged were Wossner while the cast were oem Yamaha. Moto pistons though.. perhaps the size difference? Notably the Oem Yama pistons are of Very good (unequalled actually.. true) quality, perhaps there in lies the test result?. Moto pistons are normally used for 2 or 3 races Max! Strength and size are an inverse relationship as well. Perhaps your OEM (cast) pistons were Crap? Dunno frankly? But I've seen done this demonstration repeatedly. Forged expansion in my world is.. still.. an issue, although you are right it has been reduced by, as you say by improved alloys. Wossner weights are still all over the place.
