There are many points, for one E85 is 1.00 cheaper than gasoline and even though the mileage goes down some, its still a good 40% cheaper to run E85 than gasonline. Second, it makes a good bit more power and it does it safely, so for a T7 car that is known to have weak pistons, its a great option to get more power, do it safely, do it cheaper and while you are running it, the emmisssioins is near 0. I know the carbon footprint you speak of, but there are more articles out now that actually show the previoius ones from years ago to be way off and its not nearly as bad as what most people think. Sweden is using scrap wood chips to make bio-fuels and algie is in the works too, so more alternative bio-fuels are being developed all the time.
So, E85 is cheaper, safer, makes more power, some write it off on their taxes as a flex fuel vehicle and while running it, no emmissions is being immited. Just the power gains alone are worth it to me and I would use it even if it was more expensive, the engines run about 10F cooler and also run much smoother.
That is a few reasons why someone might want to run E85, I have tuned a bunch in the Denver area and have all 3 of my Saabs running on E85, 9k aero road race car, Drag race 700bhp ng900 and daily driver Viggen flex fuel... I love being an alcoholic :-)
