I haven't done it to mine yet, but He's right. Same with sway bars and a good suspension IMHO. Basically: as soon as you're willing to spend the money, the benefits wil be seen immediately with no other upgrade. It works particularly well in medium traction situations, such as dirt, where it is able to keep torque smoothly going to the tire with more traction.
First of all, a Torsen isn't the same thing as a clutch-type LSD. In a clutch type LSD, the differential is open, until it gets too much slip, and locks up. In a torsen there's a complicated gear-set that mechanically biases torque flow between the two outputs. The concept is a little bit difficult, but basically if for example the bias is 2:1, you can put 2/3 of your torque into the wheel with traction, and 1/3 of your torque into the wheel without traction.
However, it's also important to point out what a torsen is Not. If you have no traction with one wheel (ie: Ice), zero times anything is still zero. In other words, it can not prevent the loose tire from spinning, and causing complete loss of "GO", even when you have traction in the other wheel. This is in direct contrast to a clutch type LSD.
with a little basic googling, you can come up with good mechanical diagrams of how a torsen works, if you're curious.
