Well... I use what I'll call "semi-snow" tires - Dunlop winter sport, M2 I think - can't remember. They're decent in the snow but don't sacrifice quite so much in the dry, and I think they're v-rated?

The reality is I can do the same thing in the summer in 1st and sometimes 2nd gear, if I really hit the boost hard, and also in the wet. I'm sure gripper tires would help that too, but the ones I've got aren't bad.

I suspect part of the problem is what I'm comparing to - my other car is an Audi 4000 Quattro with an engine that makes similar power to that of the Aero (an AAN motor out of an S6 if you know Audis). What's different is obviously the Audi has AWD and also the turbo hits much more gradually - it doesn't have that "just got rear-ended by a freight train" power curve of the Saab motor :^) Put together, those two characteristics make it *much* easier to get going quickly, quickly!
