I installed a Genuine Saab shifter in my 95 yesterday. I have had it on the shelf for a bit and finally had time to do the install. Now I am sorry that I did not do it sooner. This mod just plain works and is a must for anyone with a 95 with the 5 speed manual. I have owned my 2001 95 Aero from new and have 170,010 on it when I did the install......I enjoyed those miles, but would have enjoyed them so much more with this shifter!!
Thank you Nick for this great product! You are the best!!
The installation is not difficult. Once you get the old shifter out, you need to open up the 2" hole in the center. the raised pivot point demands a bit more clearance. Nick recommends a grinder. I used a big half round file and it only took 10 minutes to clearance the hole properly. the supplied instructions are very complete and include a full scale drawing as well as full color step by step instructions.
The new shifter bolts in quite easily. There is also a Zerk fitting to grease the ball initially and later on. In all a beautifully executed part, and a great piece of engineering! Saab should have built it this way in the first place. You find out the trans is pretty slick, but the shifter is make make everything a bit sloppy.
It is also a good idea to drill a 3/4 hole in the side of the shifter base casting to insert a 13mm socket to install the pivot bolt at the bottom of the shifter.
I am using the GS trans mount as well.
I know lots of Viggen guys have used this shifter, but it is equally great in the 95.
Yes this is a performance mod, but every 95 manual trans 95 should have this shifter.
Thanks again Nick.
