the OEM shifter has what looks like a piece of heater hose around the bottom of the shaft. This stops the shifter from metal on metal contact when you pull the shifter back into 2nd or 4th. I would be a good idea to put something like that on your shifter when you install it. I get a metallic clunk sometimes when I pull the lever back into those gears.
I am not going to take anything apart to install this, as I am actually sort of happy with the metallic noise.....sort of like more like a track car than a street car!
