Did you see my picture? You can indeed do a full 3" downpipe for the 9000. It's just a lot of work.
Aerodyte used to offer a beautiful dp that looked more like a piece of art then a car part, and it was a true 3". He once dynoed a car with a stage 3 tune with, and without his downpipe and the difference was something like 40 bhp.
Honestly, anything you can make in 2.5-3" pipe is gonna be a hell of a lot better then the stock pipe which is like 2". Furthermore, the bend on the stock pipe is a joke; the gases exit the turbo and hit a 90 degree wall which probably reaks havoc on egt temps.
Also, the outlet size of the outlet turbo really doesn't matter with regard the downpipe. The idea is to give the gases room to expand once they've existed the turbo outlet.
