If you have direct ignition and do not have a air mass meter, then I think that you would have a T5 ECU and could fit a MBC and probably get 15 PSI of boost.
The $35US delivered (in US) dawes device's controller would be inserted into the line between the compressor housing hose barb and the wastegate.
The wastegate is normally closed. When enough pressure is applied to the actuator, it opens the wastegate and thus limits boost and boost pressure does not get any higher. The MBC acts as a pressure reducer, so if the actuator sees reduced pressure, the boost will go higher until the actuator starts to open. The ball and spring types of MBC's do not allow pressure to get to the actuator until boost gets to a certain level. This stops the wastegate from opening early, which delays boost achievement.
You would not need to adjust the wastegate actuator arm. So the install would be very easy.
I know that getting the dawes device will be a pain for you. But it is worth a try. You could remove and block off or pinch off the hose to the wastegate and then go for a drive. Make very slow throttle transitions and watch where your boost guage goes. Slowly work up to higher boost levels and see where your boost presure fuel cut pressure is. That will define where the MBC will go.
Also, use 95 octane when you try this. With higher pressures, clean and properly adjusted plugs, good fuel and clean injectors are important!
Do you have an intercooler? If not, you should make your boost pressure increases small. If you do not have an intercooler, you could mark the wastegate actuator threads with a file, then tighen the adjustment setting and that will provide a mild increase in pressure with no expense. The marked threads will allow you to return to the factory setting.
