Bushing deflection under acceleration or braking that results in a steer effect is a bad thing. This is one of the mechanisms of so called "torque steer". (Which I define as any uncommanded steer output caused by engine torque input)

Unfrtunately if you are not careful in your bushing tuning you will get steer effects due to torque. There are a few ways of getting around this. One is to simply remove as much compliance from the suspension as possible. This works well for engine torque and brake induced compliant effects, but also removes any compliance due to lateral force.

The compliance can cause a multitude of effects, the primary one being steer. (There is also lateral force camber change as well as engine / brake torque induced camber change)

The tough job that we suspension engineers deal with is to minimize "bad" compliant effects while maintaining the good compliant effects. (Good for both handling and ride) This is not easily done with bushings that have the same rate in all directions. Voids and rate plates are used to allow bushings to have largely different raets when loaded in various directions.

The problem with stiff aftermarket bushings is that although they reduce the "bad" compliances, they also reduce the "good" ones.

The result is almost always poor ride, and handling is a crapshoot. Some aspects may improve while some may degrade. The beauty of a bushing with multiple rates in different directions is that you can decouple different events and improve both ride and handling...
