Overall you appear to have done a very nice job on your K&N installation. While having looked at the filter set up in my 1994 9000 Aero, it does not appear that water would be a problem with your open filter element set up (I just cannot envision that much water would get past the parking lamp assembly into the inner fender area), however, I do kind of wonder why Saab felt compelled to install the air box assembly (in the inner fender area) and not just go with an open air filter (unless their issue was noise control and not water).

Re the heat issue, given that the car would be moving most of the time, I wouldn't think that heat infiltration into the inner fender are should be much of a problem; therefore I wouldn't expect that insulating the inner fender would really be of much benefit.

Re your use of the K&N RE-0810 cone shaped filter, it is my understanding that the K&N RE-9060 (which is the replacement filter for the OEM style filter) is larger dimensionally and has more filtering area than the cone style filter. This leads me to speculate that one may be somewhat better off by using the K&N RE-9060 model with the factory air box, but only after making the modifications to the air box that Karl has frequently posted to the 9000 board (removing the "elephant trunk" shaped air horn, and drilling additional openings in the side of the outside cover of the air box. I have made these modifications to improve the breathing of the factory air box and I have noted a difference using the stock OEM paper filter. I am now awaiting delivery of a K&N RE-8060 filter ($44 from Summit Racing), and will post my findings after installing this unit into my modified factory air box.

Overall nice effort and your pictures were very helpful in understanding how the job looked!
