I'm trying to figure out which turbo to use on my B234 for about 1.5 bar. Everyone seems to like the T3/T4 hybrids but the T4 compressors just seem too big for a 2.3L engine that redlines at a mere 6000 RPM. Seems to me the best choice would be a T3 60-trim or Super 60. These compressors are still relatively light and would probably spool just as quickly if a ball-bearing CHRA were installed as well. Unfortunately, assuming about 80% volumetric efficiency, both of those compressors would achieve max RPM just as the engine hit it's redline, meaning the turbo couldn't possibly flow any more air without risking damage. That's good, because the 45-trim that's on there now goes WAY beyond its max RPM, but bad because it will still impose a restriction on the system. That's where the T4 comes in, right? Is the spool up on say.. a 50-trim T04E (used in Swedish Dynamics red series) truly almost as good as the OEM turbo? Has anyone considered a TS04 compressor? That thing looks smooth as hell. Way higher boost than anything I'm looking for though, just curious. =)

Seems to me the best option might be to get a T3 Super 60, ball-bearing CHRA, and a larger turbine housing. That won't give me any room for more boost but 1.5 bar is enough for me. Does anyone know the A/R of the OEM housing? Does anyone know the details on the "T25/T28" turbo that is offered in Maptun's Stage II kit? I think T28's always have T25 turbine housings so calling it a T25/T28 instead of just a T28 seems redundant. I believe they almost always use a T3 60-trim... could it be that they offer exactly what I'm looking for?

Comments, anyone? I've thought this all out a lot but, obviously, have not actually -tried- any of these ideas.
