Like others have stated, the 911T is a awesome car but then need a LOT of maintenance! Plus the older 911's are very tricky to drive fast it the turns the way the motor hangs out on the back. The late 80's to 90's drastically improved the handling of the cars as well as the on/off turbo boost which further makes them more difficult to drive.
911T's is something I have always wanted but it's definantly not a daily car unless you get one newer then 94. A friend has a 2001 911T & it does excellent in every kind of weather (still haven't been for a ride though).
The non-T 911's were pretty reliable actually & could be cheap to maintain. Also like others stated, look at 944/968's. Their head gaskets are in the $2500-3500 range to fix but otherwise, a excellent car :o)
