I'm afraid it's just too expensive. I bought my '92 9000 Turbo in October of 2000, and between then and now I have been hit 5 times:
1. Parking lot while I was in a restaurant. No note.
2. Parking lot while I was backing up, hit somebody who didn't have their lights on. They didn't have insurance.
3. Freeway, a bungee cord came off the top of some guy's jeep and hit my hood, made 2 dents, one of which cracked the paint. Got his info but he is being very uncooperative and I still haven't received a penny from him.
4. Parking lot, leaving a mall. Some guy in a huge 4x4 rams me and destroys my left quarter panel. Probably drunk. Takes off, I couldn't get his plate cuz it was too dirty.
5. Freeway, some guy in front of me passed the person in front of him on the shoulder, hit something on the shoulder which flew up and hit my hood/grill. He took off and I couldn't catch him due to traffic.
Also, the following things have all broken and been replaced:
All brake pads
All brake rotors
Head gasket
All motor mounts, and one of the brackets
Transmission (synchros died)
Clutch
Alternator
Drive axles (cv boot cracked and dirt got in)
Direct Ignition cassette
Total cost on all the engine stuff has been probably $4000+
I'll probably sell the car for about what I still owe on the loan ($5500) since it's still in such bad shape because most of the body damage is still there since I haven't been paid for ANY of it. I'm hoping things like the aluminum flywheel, kevlar clutch, etc make up for the damage.
I love the car, and I will truly miss it. It's a wonderful experience to drive. Perhaps my path will cross Saab's path again someday, and I'll probably still prowl the BB once in a while, but apart from that, farewell Saab world! It's been fun!
