If you are the only car on teh road - and you receive an "instant-on" signal (usually K/Ka/Lidar signal) on a VR-1 then you are toast. The warning is already too late - you have been intercepted. However, many municipalities still use the X and K band systems that must remain on costantly - your signal reception far exceeds the sensitivity of their reception - you have time to adjust your driving. In the usual pack setting, however, the instant on signal you receive is from cars way ahead of you and you have time to slow down. Your instinct about being the only car on the road is very good.
