The largest, widest and safest roads in the U.S. are the Interstate routes that crisscross the country. They were designed to be driven safely at *much lower* speeds than on the autobahn and nearly all vehicles drive at least the speed limit (~110kmh in the west) or up to ~25kmh over the limit.
Regardless, we're not talking about Interstates, which are double-laned, divided, and at least 34 feet wide (per direction); we're talking about a rural, unlit, two-lane road, possibly without a shoulder.
