...because you are reminding them of what it's like to have a young man's perception of the world.
I agree that driving is definitely *fun* - on this, I am right there with you (what's your name?). Going fast is also pretty exciting and I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I haven't been there too (also made it to court because of it).
But your reasoning is flawed: Driving *is*, as you put it, "easily the most dangerous thing we do everyday," no doubt about it. But when you add speed to this, the consequences do not rise proportionally, but *exponentially* (perhaps someone better with physics than I can step in & give you the numbers).
You also write: "I know my limits, and I know my car's limits. I try to be as safe as I can, so that I don't end up on the news." But do you really know your limits? Your car's limits? Do you truly believe you can somehow make this a safe activity? "Safe" and 125 mph on a public road are absolutely mutually exclusive terms. When was the last time your car understeered in a corner and how did you correct it? What about oversteer? What'd you do? Have you ever had to avoid something on the highway? What'd you do?
You cannot know your own or your car's limits by driving it fast in a straight line and with the number of years of experience you have. You cannot even know your car's limits by taking off-ramps fast. I've driven SAABs for hundreds of thousands of miles and I still don't know what my limits or the cars' limits are.
SAABs are nice cars. I hope you come to drive yours responsibly.
