As I have a SpeedParts ECu in my 1998 900SET, I can let you know how it works for me.
My car (an automatic) produced a maxiumum of 10PSI when stock, and that boost quickly taperd to 8PSI. Obviously the factory ECU had fuel maps based on the factory turbo boost pressure settings, so eveything worked together.
The SpeedParts ECU is reprogrammed with new maps for the fuel and for the turbo boost pressure. With the SpeedParts ECU I get a maximum boost pressure of 17PSI, slowly tapering to 15PSI. And the SpeedParts ECU supplies the corrct fuel amount for this increased boost pressure. More boost (with the correct amount of fuel) equals more power. Simple in principle but requires a bit of work by the tuner to get more power without causing any weird running problems or overstressing the engine.
