As someone who has (Abbott) poly rear control arm bushings and rear/front anti-roll bar bushes, fitted in that order to my 9000 CSE 2.3 turbo, I'd say these will not ruin your ride comfort. The "butterfly bushes" had a very positive effect on torque steer, and reduced the tendency to pick up on lines in the road. The rear anti-roll bushes made the car much more "chuckable", while the front ones dialled back in some of the understeer and in another life I might have taken them off again and fitted OEM rubber bushes here.

However, I went the route of lower/stiffer springs and Konis, all from Abbott again. This package sorted out the understeer and gives the car extremely good stability and balance on smooth roads and in fast corners, whether tight or sweeping, but the springs certainly have compromised the ride, for my taste at least.

Poly anti-roll bar bushes will harden the ride on rougher surfaces unless both wheels on the same "axle" are being deflected equally at the same time, in which case they have little effect. But in practice I think you'd find them very acceptable. When you see what a difference changing the bushes makes, you might want to hold off on fitting a stiffer rear bar.

What the stiffer anti-roll bar bushes will do, of course, is make your tyres work harder and it makes sense to have the right tyres at the right pressures before doing anything else, or you will just have less roll with less overall grip. Wider wheels can put more rubber on the road but over-low sidewalls will have a much worse effect on your ride than poly bushings.
