Some interesting temp measurements.. long

I took temp readings in various areas of the car. Specifically where one would put an air filter. This was done in a garage, door open, within an hour. I timed everything. I took these only at idle-no reving of the engine. I wanted to weed out any variables. This was on my 88 spg with 82 degree fan switch and k&n filter that mounts at AMM, from spg 9. I took them with a meat probe which cost 88 dollars. The most expensive I cound find. Not the best but it worked great. This is what I found. 1)I put probe where the filter is now-not touching anything. At ilde before fans came on, the hottest it got was 79 degrees. When fans came on, it went up to 100 degrees. 2). Probe was positioned below where filter is now, this would be where one could mount the filter if you put a 90 degree elbow off the AMM and posistioned it next to dipstick. About 12 inches lower. At idle-74 degrees, fans on, up to 94. Here's the shocker. 3). probe positioned where people mount filter in fender well. Idle-76 degrees-I thought for sure this would be less, but there isn't air entering anywhere or where any could escape. Here's where it shines-temp only goes up to 82 degrees when fans come on.
It's amazing how hot it gets when the fans come on. This says something about higher temp fan switch. Next I will do the same with IC fan always on.
I did this because I'm planning on mounting filter lower. I'm making the parts now with some of the old stock filter parts. I'm bored and my gal is out of town.
