Did you ever see that Tom Cruise race car movie? Days of Thunder is it? He was some fresh out of the box sprintcar driver that somehow ended up racing in the big leagues. His mentor was an old salt, been there done that former driver (Robert Duval). At first Cruise was getting his behind kicked in every race and he and Duval would fight over who's fault it was - the driver or the car. It was only when Cruise admitted that he didn't know a thing about how a race car worked, didn't understand the meaning behind the language of things like "loose tail" (hot tires) and all the racing mechanics, that they began to sort out the various problems and he began winning. The point here is that you should really consider getting to know the basics and idiosyncacies of these SAAB's before you attempt to make one into a rocket ship. I too have an old 82T that I'm slowly tweaking upwards. Since it's my daily driver, keeping it in top running order is the priority. I know that without the basics covered, any performance modification will only make it that much more difficult to just keep it running reliably.
I guarantee you that none of these performance minded sorts on here are happy with a hot running monster of a car with a squeeky suspension, a tick tick noise at idle, a puddle of brownish fluid under the engine and a coolant reservoir that needs topped up every week. The bottom line: A frustrated SAAB owner is a Honda dealer's best friend.
