one thing you can do to get more experience is run both morning and afternoon. (or, if you're still running novice, run in afternoon so you can also do fun runs.) what the organizers would likely do is have you run in a specific class in the morning and then "time-only" in the afternoon (with time-only, you don't compete with others). Having run the course in the morning gives an unfair advantage so i doubt they'd let you do it the other way around.

also, the wwscc events @ boeing usually have 4 runs (i don't know why we didn't on sunday - there was plenty of time). the boeing courses are smaller/tighter, too (by about 10 seconds), so you'll get plenty of opportunities to practice with understeering. fun runs should be more likely in the afternoon, too - i just realized that it's still light out at 9 :-).

you can practice some driving techniques on the road. every time i get on/off a highway, i mess around with steering the car with the throttle; i have gotten into the habit of always looking ahead on the road/looking where i want to go; i practice late apexing when turning onto streets at normal speeds; and i use intersection islands to practice turning in early a la slalom cones (be careful, though - i've messed up a rim pretty badly doing it :-(

speaking of slalom cones, i was able to shave off over a full second in a five cone slalom at the evolution school - there is tons of time to be made up here.

check out Henry Watts' "Secrets of Solo Racing" - it's a great autox primer & is good to refer back to again & again. can probably find it cheap at half.com.
