Yes, a modfied ECU will have higher fuel cuts. Crushing the FPR is part of a MAP resistor hack which makes the boost and fuel cuts go higher. This will increase power without a MBC, but as you know, a MBC or a SMBC can do things to reduce boost lag that nothing else can. A MAP resistor hack is not for everyone. You are getting outside of things considered safe.

I have been wanting someone to try an anticipator setup. Put a small metal, low pressure, air pressure regulator in parallel with the MBC and adjust to apply some pressure to the WGA in advance of the MBC flowing. This will allow the MBC to open the WG faster and avoid some of the pressure overshoot. This will be a low cost setup, but you will need to use 2 Y's or T's to get it connected. If it works ok, its a low cost solution. If if does not work, it cost $10 to $20. A cheap lesson in what works or does not either way. Idealy, the pressure regulator will apply enough pressure before the MBC takes action, so that the WG is about to lift off of its seat. Finding the sweet spot will probably be easy. You will increase pressure until you get boost lag or MBC induced under-boosts, then back off the pressure regulator until things seem to be well behaved.

If the anticipator works, I am thinking that it could become quite mainstream, as pressure overshoots are a wide spread problem and a solution is not otherwise at hand. An integrated BMC anticipator could be manufactured if things prove out. (this is now 'published' and in the public domain, so anyone can do this)

My solution was a custom pnuemo adjustable pop-off valve and a brazed manifold to support it. Expensive and a lot of work! So I am interested to see if an anticipator setup will work well. Small, effective, universal, cheap and easy to install and setup are all a great alternative to my pop-off valve solution.

As for boost droop at higher RPMs, that is a consquence of the MBC regulating pressure at the turbo instead of the TB.

The T5 limits boost pressure, not air mass flow. So a cooler denser air charge at the same pressure limitation will get you more power. So intake and exhaust mods will help, as well as a Viggen IC and water injection. But for the cost of water injection, you can get a modifed ECU, so that would be done before water injection.

All of the above applies to a T5 system. A SMBC can be used on a T5 or T7.

If I still had a T5 system, I would have done this and reported the results. So I need to ask others to try it out. And an independant verification never hurts.
