No, we need a true pressure regulator that will start to flow as soon as boost is starting to build. Then when the pressure gets to the adjusted set point, the pressure will not increase any more. This is how we get the anticipator action. This will counter the tendancy of ball-spring MBCs to do things too late.
A MBC will not flow till a threshold is exceeded, then it will not limit its output pressure at all.
A bleeder valve as you suggest, would add a second bleeder port and that would upset the MBC. If you used a bleeder with its port blocked, then you simply have a needle valve which would be useful to some extend. But it would not flow fast enough to attain WGA pressure before the MBC flowed when boost is very rapid. I see what you were thinking. But a pressure regulator will probably work better under different rates of boost increase where a needle valve would not have flexabiltiy.
Try to position the regulator where it cannot see radiation from the turbo or exhaust manifold. It will have a rubber diaphragm inside.
You might find a pressure regulator for around $10. A MBC is not so cheap. A needle valve would be cheap, but $10 is not an issue.
