I have a really good 87 block...all cleaned up good hone marks/good but not perfect bearings/good pistons with almost no wear on the their load side...little wear, probably could do another 50-60K. Engine had 110K on it before I got it used for $150.00. On my 85 I now have K&N/Blue 25# injectors and 274K. It goes REALLY well except for a light knock in the engine that is getting worse (been doing this ever since 151K when it was emissions tested at a certain Saab dealer in Cheshire, Western Mass that shall remain nameless) and now finally falling oil pressure...38#s at 2000rpm hot. So...time to change.
Do I spend the $$$ for a set of vandervell tri-metal bearings/new rings from saabperformance. Do I just use the old rings and replace the bearings...there is next to no bore wear. I'll be replacing the timing chain/all new gaskets of course. The water passages have some corrosion...does this matter or will it dissolve some into the new coolant?
Rest of my car is near perfect and I'm looking for another 200K+. I don't want major performance...just a solid 200hp or so...opinions???
