My goal was to build the upper perch so that the three pieces all fit together. That is, the inside of the stock bump stop--in other words, the inner cone--is cut flat and to a depth that is exactly the same as the bottom edge of the steel pipe cross-section. This way, the jack plate sits flush not only with the pipe cross-section, but the top of bump stop inner cone as well. Now, I'm no engineer, and maybe this was overkill, but I wanted to ensure that this thing wasn't going to collapse. It's probably fine without the cone touching the jack plate; the pipe cross-section is probably more than strong enough to handle the forces.
Another important consideration is the fact that the car body, spring, and upper a-arm form a triangle. When you change the length of the spring, you change the ride height by *double* the change in spring length. Yes, Marge, a half-inch increase in length will raise the car a full inch. And still another consideration is sprung and unsprung weight when estimating ride height. I'm guessing that unsprung weight on a c900 is well over 200# up front. Honestly, failure to fully embrace these two considerations is why I made the perches too big :-)
