For the same torque, the stretch bolts and ARP bolts would have the same tension. The modulus of elasticity is the same, so they would both react the same to any HG settling. A more 'elastic' bolt would be one with a smaller shank, higher stress and higher strain.. as long as it is strong enough... something that the material in a stretch bolt -cannot do-.

When a stretch bolt stretchs, thats it, that does not mean that it has more elastic energy. For a given T + angle, the one that does not stretch would have more stored energy and would follow a HG gasket contraction with more clamping force.

Stretch bolts are both cheap and well suited to imprecise automated torquing equipment. When over torqued by a certain amount, the tension is limited by the bolt material yielding... non linear. The problem with the stretch bolts is consistancy of yield strength. This can vary with time temperature deformation history, as well as chemistry. And we know that Saab can go for years not being able to torque things right. <insert rant about quality assurance auditing and process control... no excuses etc>

I was wondering if with your tuning, that you might be seeing the limitations of these fasterners. You see to be on the cutting, sometimes bleeding, edge of things.
