It really depends on what you trying to achieve and how much $$ you have.

Before you get on the 'performance' roller coaster- ensure your car is in top running condition. Spend some $$ and time on routine items.

The most common (cheapest) "under the hood/ for HP"; air intake (K&N, but there are others), more fuel (>FPR: 2.8/3.0bar, RR, larger injectors (or just new injectors if yours are original), exhuast (loose cat/high flow mufler). Also included; new silicone hoses all around (they stay on better during boost and last forever), at least a new hooter valve, new waste gate or adjustment, some nice new spark cables (I prefer Magnacore). When some of this done- adjust your own APC pots for more/longer boost.

Second stage mods; AF APCs from the many sponsers here, AF intercooler (or a method of cooling your near 190hp beasty) and electronic igintion to control all of this air and fuel (read- boost). By this time... one of many things could happen in the 'performance upgrade world;' new head gasket (get copper), clutch, motor mounts, exhuast manifold seal, or a tranny (i know).

Next steps include more air, fuel and exhaust (big bore throttle, bigger injectors, new down pipes (2.5" exhaust should do until you get near 250hp). To get above 220ish hp you need to open the block- cams, valves, etc... will take you down the engine rebuild road (which is beyond my scope of knowledge): this is the BIG HP.

This BB will add- and I'm sure my HP claims will be disputed. Enjoy!
