Folks,

Does anyone know what the standard oil supply line pressure is for the C900 and a T3? I've got blow by, as we all do, but I think maybe (new CHRA btw!) I COULD have less.

Does the stock T3 as used on a SAAB have the proper oil pressure?

Please see below oil filter 'description' below, I am interested in the proper pressure and what size orfice?

TIA,

Ed S

4AN 10 Micron Turbo Oil Filter

The FP4ANFilter features a 10 micron replaceable filter element that captures oil contaminants in its basket. The filter basket is easily removable for quick inspection and cleaning. The filter can be run in either direction, but the preffered flow direction is in the female side and out the male side. This allows all the contaminants to be collected inside the filter basket rather than collecting the contaminants all over the outside of the filter basket.

GT CHRA Ball bearing applications:

The body of the filter features a built in .8mm restrictor as recommended by Garrett for use with their GT25R, GT30R, GT35R cartridges. Garrett has recommended oil pressure specified for the oil inlet of the GT CHRA. The idle oil pressure at the turbo should be 9psi and oil pressure at 5000rpm should be 30psi. The .8mm restrictor will reduce an engine with 25psi oil pressure at idle, 75psi oil pressure at 5000rpm to these Garrett recommended pressures.

4G63 Specific info:

When using the FP4ANFilter on an oil supply line that originates at the filter housing on the 4G63 engine, the .8mm restrictor results in the Garrett recommened pressure at the turbocharger oil inlet. For 4G63 engines that feed the turbo oil off the cylinder head, the .8mm restrictor should be drilled out to .125”. The normal 4G63 engine has low enough oil pressure at the head oil supply port that the .8mm orifice is not required. The filter element provides all the restriction needed to get the oil inlet pressure down to the Garrett recommended values.

Oil supply off the filter housing - use the .8mm restrictor as supplied.

Oil supply off the cylinder head - drill the restrictor out to .125”

Universal Usage information:

Remember that the filter can become clogged. While you may have prevented a turbo failure by filtering out contaminants, you can CAUSE a failure by limiting oil supply through a plugged oil line filter. Check the filter regularly, inspect the filter whenever you perform an engine oil change. Turbo failures resulting from plugged filters are the responsibility of the user.

Remember that the filter is supplied with a .8mm orifice built into the tip of the outlet -4AN male fitting. If you are using this filter on turbochargers besides the Garrett Ballistic Concepts Ball Bearing turbos, you need to drill the oil restrictor out to achieve proper oil supply to the turbo. In most cases drilling the orifice to .125” is recommended for plain bearing turbo applications. The user is ultimately responsible for ensuring proper oil pressure is delivered to his turbocharger. The .125” drilled oil filter will reduce the oil pressure going to the turbo by about 2psi. If using the filter on any turbo besides the GT series ball bearing turbos from Garrett, the user is responsible for verifying that sufficient oil pressure is present t the turbo oil inlet. Turbo failures resulting from over restriction of the oil feed line is the responsibility of the user.
