This is all true, expecially when it comes to getting off the line.
On the other hand, front drive may make the care safer and more stable in "normal" driving. You can adjust the behaviour of either type with simple suspension mods like bushings or - particularly - tyre choice and pressure. A friend of mine with a Mercedes CE is most impressed by the way my 9000 will power its way round corners. Equally, it will hold a line very well, or you can throw it into a corner and slide it round just like my old 96.
I've certainly found some rear drive cars that understeer dramatically under power at low speeds, the reverse of what you might expect: and I once had a Honda front-drive sports car spin 180 degrees in front of me on a roundabout, at perhaps 25 mph. He didn't hit anyone but I bet he was waiting there, pointing the wrong way, for a good long time until someone had mercy on him.
In the typical Saab the engine is actually ahead of the front wheels and if there's one thing that makes, say, BMWs look they way they do it's the way the front wheels are way up front. However, at the other extreme, mid-engined cars can and do let go very abruptly!
