One important thing to consider is the overall condition of the engine/trans and not just the mileage.
Re the engine, if you and previous owners have maintained it well and changed oil frequently (or even better used synthetic) the motor's probably in fine shape and you'll have a happy outcome. If it hasn't been maintained well, might want to reconsider.
Re the transmission, maintenance matters here too but even considering it's a NA car, you're pretty lucky to get that thing to 280K without trouble. Only good news here is most C900 5-speed problems develop slowly - you'll hear nose a long time before the pinion bearing is completely shot.
As other posters have indicated, possibly a much larger factor is *how* the turbo is implemented. DO use an intercooler (or even better water injection). DO start the boost low and increase slowly when you're sure there are no problems. Absolutely DO use high-octane gas.
When I did mine, I did not install APC but kept the EZK ignition that was stock on the car (an '86). When I used gas with octane < 92, it seemed like under boost the EZK would suddenly "give up" trying to retard the ignition and the engine would start pinging like crazy. Hearing that noise a couple of times taught me forever to use good gas!
