Gutting would move you out of street prepared and even street modified. btw: the rules are online...
The convertables also aren't very stiff chassis. An automatic would also be a poor choice for Auto-x. It's pretty much a 2nd gear affair for the stick. The SPG would be the way to go.
Also, currently they are proposing new language in the rules for the street prepared that open up the allowance for changing the boost matrix; very nice for us Saab guys - also available online in this months fasttrack. Limited slip, race tires and your suspension mods should be your priority though.
I've run a Viggen around in GS for a few years. Unfortunately, it's outclassed in the stock classes. In DSP with some mods, it might make a showing, but it's more than likely to be outclassed there as well. Great handling has never been a strong point with the older Saabs..
