Aaron,
Hope all is well!
The non turbo 900 has potential to 190-210 BHP for street use but employing such enhancements to the nat. asp. SAAB can be more involved and more cost inhibitive. Starting modifications would be header, exhaust system, intake and ignition wire which would bring the 2.1 liter engine towards 160-165 BHP. Additional modifications would include cylinder head (raise compression ratio), camshaft, aluminum flywheel, fueling, etc. which could bring the NA engine towards 200 BHP.
Nat at ERIKSSON INDUSTRIES (Our local transmission source and rebuilder)races a 2.1 liter 900 with multiple enhancements and is using this car as his daily driver (gets through strict CT emission).
A correctly updated NA engine application will provide a nice low end output that will initially (first 3-4 seconds) accelerate quicker than the lower CR turbocharged engine. Maximum engine output will always come via turbocharging and the 2.1 liter engine could also be employed as LPT.
Best of luck and regards,
Gary K at SWEDISH DYNAMICS,INC.
